Remember the good old days of childhood? Otter Pops, spontaneous adventures in the backyard, constant praise of relatively minor successes (“You brushed your teeth all by yourself? I’m so proud of you!”) — all staples of that carefree lifestyle that so many of us long to recapture.
Here at EARN, we hope our new blog will create a similar atmosphere of excitement and wonder in our readers. So to kick off our blogging efforts, we’re stealing another great remnant of youth: the ubiquitous “who, what, when, where, and why” sections of birthday party invitations. What simpler, more transparent way to introduce ourselves and articulate our blogging goals?
So, without further ado, take a look at the 5 W’s for our new EARN blog:
Who: EARN, a California-based nonprofit helping low-income workers achieve prosperity for themselves and future generations. How on earth will we do this? Well, not to give away all our tricks just yet, but we’re leading the nation in the rapidly expanding field of microsavings. More on that here and in future posts.
What: A blog, sure. But also a source of inspiration and information. A community forum. A bulletin board. A news resource. A hub of ideas. A place to get your questions answered. A launching pad for questions that no one’s ever asked before.
When: Every week! As we kick this blog off the ground, expect a new post every Monday.
Where: You can find our most recent posts right here, not to mention on Facebookand Twitter. (Our CEO’s posts also appear on Huffington Post and SFGate.) More generally, our home base is 235 Montgomery Street in the beautiful city of San Francisco, CA.
Why? Because every day, we see hard-working people of modest means defy the odds and achieve prosperity. Because we’ve helped thousands of low-income people invest in their future by starting small businesses (or investing in an existing ones), going to college, or buying their first homes, and we want these life-changing opportunities to be available to all Americans. Because our cutting-edge research proves that microsavings programs, paired with effective public policy, help generation after generation succeed. Armed with this knowledge, we wholeheartedly reject the hopelessness of poverty and embrace the possibility of shared prosperity.
But perhaps most importantly, we’ve launched this blog because we want to connect with you. Yes, it’s cliché — and yes, it’s cliché to say it’s cliché — but we’re completely, utterly excited to form lasting relationships with every EARN supporter. Our vision of prosperity for all Americans can’t happen without you in our corner.
So, to get started, please drop us a line below and introduce yourself. We’d love to hear from you!
Until next week,
Charlotte (2010-2011 Social Media Fellow) and the EARN Team
