The Power of Homeownership

Being raised by a single mother, I experienced the hardship of financial struggles on a daily basis.  My mother was always able to provide, but we adhered to a strict budget and lived modestly in order to stay within our means.  I vividly remember the underlying fear of being evicted from the house we rented and the sense of instability that permeated our lives.

Fortunately, my mother is a resourceful woman; she discovered a program sponsored by the County of Marin helping those with lower incomes buy their first home at a below market rate.  Once my mother found this program, she immediately began scrimping and saving for her dream of home ownership.  After a number of years and many pennies saved, our family was chosen to be participants in the program and my mother’s dream of home ownership was realized.

Seeing the stability, financial security and immense hope that home ownership has given my mother has been a truly amazing experience.  This experience is what propels my involvement with EARN (earn.org) and my deep belief in the organization’s mission.  EARN enables me to use my resources and involvement in the real estate community to help those wanting to achieve home ownership; EARN provides me the honor of empowering people to rise above a situation I was in myself not long ago.

I encourage you to come to EARN’s ‘Welcome Home Breakfast’ on Friday, December 3rd 8:30 AM at the St. Francis Yacht Club (guests are welcome at no charge).  We will be celebrating EARN families who are achieving home ownership.  It’s truly an inspiring event.  Hope to see you there…
