There’s been quite a bit of buzz recently about EARN’s work to break the cycle of poverty by helping people manage their money better. I am so proud that one of my favorite tools is included in the discussion.
I created the “credit card condom” to encourage people to think about their long term financial goals each and every time they make a purchase.
The “condom” is to promote what I call “safe spending.” That means we recognize the fact that even if we use plastic, we are giving up our CASH! It reconnects our financial behaviors with what matters most to us.
If you have been in any of my workshops, you know that I don’t tell people what they should or should not do with their money. After all, if you make it, you get to decide how to spend it. My goal with the “condom” is to promote mindful money behaviors by creating a tool to keep your financial goal close at hand when you are making financial decisions.
It can be very easy to spend on things that feel good in the moment -- but that actually move us away from our true financial priorities. This simple tool can remind you to put your money where your heart is, each time you use your credit or debit card.
Until next time,
