When I was a kid, my friends and I would dream about winning a million dollars. "What would you do with all that money?" we'd ask each other. Without fail, the answers were ostentatious: buy an underwater house, say, or visit every country in the world. (No, we didn't have the slightest idea of how much — or, rather, how little — one million dollars could buy.)
