I started saving when i was frustrated that I couldn't afford to buy a house and i was scared I would get skerewed by the system - so I started to buy a lot of stocks - surprise surprise - 5 years later I had a 20% down payment, $ to put on a new roof and I still have savings ; - ) now saving for vacations and retirement and kids summer camp and everything thing else that's important to me. Yup now I save because it works, not because I'm scared.
